# Character Sheet

Open `character-sheet.html` to explore Steve's fictional example. It does not save your personal records. Choose **Download blank app ZIP**, wait for the actual ZIP and extract the whole folder. Open its `character-sheet.html` in your usual desktop browser, outside private/incognito mode; keep the `assets` folder alongside it.

In the blank app, use **Optional AI and storage setup** in Welcome for a choices-first guided start, or **Start manually** for a first Quest. Make a test entry and reopen the file in the same browser profile to confirm saving. Use **Data → Export → Download recovery file** to keep a separate `migration.json` backup. To move devices, back up the destination first, then use **Data → Import** there and review the replacement/checkpoint. `data.json` and Copy for AI are context, not full recovery backups. There is no automatic cross-device sync. API keys and in-app chat connection settings may need setting up again on the new device.

AI is optional. The app's Settings guide explains how to copy one chosen topic into an ordinary Claude chat manually, with no account connection or API key; Claude Free usage limits apply. See `instructions.md` and `ai-privacy-guide.md` for the current guides.
